Wahaca Restaurant
The rammed earth wall at the entrance toWahaca in this restaurant in London’s Covent Garden gives access to a wide audience to the look and feel of this form of earth building. We were asked by the projects architect Softroom to help the contractor put a wall together at the entrance to the basement restaurant. It meant building under an existing ceiling which restricted the height of the wall. Because the restaurant is in the basement so the full six tonnes of material for the wall had to be barrowed down the stairs! Apart from that the contractors got the hang pretty quickly and built the wall in a day.
