Big Brother Den

London

Rammed earth was used for this popular ‘reality TV’ shows’ more intimate space for the contestants. Using sustainable earth building materials rather than conventional materials was a bold decision. We were given two weeks to mobilise, and three and a half weeks to complete the earth walls and timber roofing. The walls took five days to build, with 25 tonnes of material. They had two different angled battered wall face angles, and no 90 degree angles anywhere. The only other challenge was the request for a coarse board finish, as though the formwork had been made from loose boards. After each set up was complete thin sawn boards where fixed to the inside of the formwork to make this rougher surface.
