Rammed earth in Afghanistan
This interesting work is in part the result of a workshop I gave 4 years ago at LILI. Graham Hunter, an architect by training, came on the course from Friday night to Sunday lunch. From that small exposure and some practice he managed to get a contract building schools and returning refugee housing in Afghanistan.
He has developed an interesting cruciform formwork to mitigate seismic effects and allow an easy way for buildings to be expanded.
I believe this work has influenced the local building regulations to allow new compound walls in rammed earth [rather than the previous brick and cement only rule] which is great news.
